| A very good venue for spectators Two covered
grandstands and it even boasted Electric lighting, something
lacking at many other early speedways. By 11th May 1929 the
promotion had lost money, they didn't have enough capital to
continue so they put it all up for sale. The guy behind Rochdale speedway, Percy Platt took over, but he couldn't make a
go of Burnley either so from July 1929 the folk of Burnley would
never hear the bikes again. |

| This was the Burnley English Dirt Track League Team for 1929.
The riders are kneeling Frank Charles, Team Manager Arthur Taylor,
Arthur Wilcock, Ginger Lees, Jack Lund, Cyril Wilcock on his bike,
Unknown, Joe Abbott, and the guy in a suit at the far right is
also unknown. |

| These bikes were winning races during the late 1920s/early
1930s The Douglas was so successful in 1929 but Rudge became the
blue print for the future of speedway. The two British bike
makers had to step aside when another British engine maker JAP
came along in about 1931 |
