Long Track Racing

At the same address there was a trotting track of 680 yards which in 1972 was adapted for the bikes. Here is a scan from the first Long Track meeting ever staged in Scotland: -

Ivan Mauger won that meeting from Bobby Beaton (2nd) and Barry Briggs (3rd) Barry was unlucky to have bike problems and got nothing from his first ride.
Contestant John Wilson says: You may find the attached completed program for the first Long Track held in Motherwell interesting. It was a great track to ride, very smooth, and speeds approaching 100mph. Ivan was unbeatable, Barry unfortunately had an engine failure in his fist race. I did not too bad, finishing on 8 points, including one e/f.
